THE FLYING LIFE, SIMPLIFIED

Streamline your flight prep, and enjoy your aircraft more with the GDL 60 datalink and PlaneSync technology. It’s the connected aircraft solution that automatically updates your avionics databases1, logs flight/engine data7 and lets you remotely check fuel and systems status via your Garmin Pilot smart-device app2.

GDL 60 is the datalink that enables our PlaneSync technology; it is compatible with GTN Xi navigators and select flight decks.

Automatic downloads via 4G LTE cellular or Wi-Fi® connectivity keep your avionics updated with the latest databases1.

Got fuel for your trip? Check the Garmin Pilot app on your smart device for a real-time aircraft status2 update5

.

Upload your flight plan data to your compatible navigator at the airport.

In flight, you can use Connext® services to interface portable devices and apps with your avionics.

At journey’s end, your flight logs, EIS data and other info are securely uploaded1 into cloud storage for review7.

AUTOMATIC DATABASE UPDATES

Forget time-consuming manual updates via data card. Your GDL 60 offers database downloads directly to the aircraft1. You don’t need to be present for the process. Most databases will auto-synchronize across your avionics at power up.

FLIGHT/ENGINE DATA LOGGING

With compatible avionics, your aircraft’s GDL 60 datalink can transmit flight and engine log data automatically1 to secure cloud storage7 after landing. You can view this data on devices running the Garmin Pilot app or share it online with your maintenance crew via the flyGarmin.com® website.

REMOTE AIRCRAFT STATUS

With GDL 60 and the Garmin Pilot app, it’s easy to keep tabs on your aircraft from virtually anywhere2. When appropriately equipped, an aircraft dashboard page lets you check active/standby database status, as well as Hobbs, tachometer and flight times, fuel quantity, battery voltage, OAT, oil temperature and aircraft GPS location4.

MOBILE DEVICE CONNECTIVITY

By adding the GDL 60 datalink to your system, you can use Connext to stream weather, traffic, AHRS, flight plans and other data from your avionics to flight apps such as Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight.

ENTERTAINMENT INTERFACE

When installed with a GDL 69A SXM satellite receiver6, GDL 60 streaming capabilities can support remote tuning of SiriusXM® audio entertainment channels via the Garmin Pilot app on compatible mobile devices.

Not for use outside USA and Canada

GSR 56 INTERFACE

GDL 60 can also act as an interface to a GSR 56 satellite transceiver with Connext satellite services5. From the Garmin Pilot app, you can utilize in-flight text messaging or initiate voice calls to help you stay connected from virtually anywhere.

System Overview

The Garmin GDL 60 LTE™/Wi-Fi Datalink serves as a security gateway and is the primary means of connecting Garmin-equipped aircraft with Garmin’s services offerings.

Cloud connectivity is provided through LTE and Wi-Fi and cockpit/cabin connectivity is provided through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. When the aircraft is within LTE or Wi-Fi coverage, the GDL 60 maintains current avionics databases including navigation, SafeTaxi®, enroute/terminal charts, terrain, obstacles, and more.

If the aircraft is outside LTE and Wi-Fi coverage, databases can be updated wirelessly through Database Concierge using Garmin Pilot™.

The GDL 60 offloads maintenance and flight data to the Aviation Cloud. It also allows Garmin Pilot and approved third-party EFBs to synchronize flight plans and display weather and traffic data from the avionics.

For in-flight connectivity, a GSR 56 Iridium datalink can be installed for Garmin Connext® services. The GDL 60 provides an input for powering the unit from an external battery. This allows the GDL 60 to wake up, connect to Garmin Servers, and download databases while the rest of the aircraft is powered off.

The GDL 60 can be configured to support any or all of the following capabilities:

• Automatic database updates

• Upload of aircraft and flight data

• Remote Aircraft Status

• Enhanced Connext® PED connectivity (Flight Stream 510 replacement)

The GDL 60 works by transferring data, such as aviation databases, between Garmin servers and the GDL60 using Wi-Fi or the LTE™ cellular network. The preferred method is Wi-Fi because it will typically provide faster data transfer and is not subject to cellular network congestion.

If Wi-Fi is not available, then the GDL 60 will try to use the cellular network for data transfers.

In a typical scenario, the GDL 60 would use a Wi-Fi connection at the aircraft home base and use the LTE Cellular network when the aircraft is traveling and Wi-Fi is not available.

Configuration and software download to a GDL 60 can only be accomplished through a connected GTN Xi navigator. A single GTN Xi is the minimum required interface to a GDL 60.
